How it works

From neighbour to part of the neighbourhood.

Getting started takes a few minutes. Here’s what to expect, step by step.

  1. Join your community

Sign in with your mobile number or email address using a one-time code. No passwords to remember. Tell us your name and date of birth, then find your home by postcode.

Your address places you in your community, and stays private. If Homestead hasn’t reached your area yet, we’ll keep a note and tell you when it does.

  2. Create your resident profile

Add a photo, a few words about yourself and the things you’re interested in. Mention what you do, and if you’re 18 or over, whether you offer local work.

Share as much or as little as you like. You can preview exactly how neighbours will see you.

  3. Discover local people

The People directory shows the adults in your community who’ve chosen to be listed. Search by name, job or interest, filter by what you have in common, and find neighbours offering local work.

Prefer not to be listed? Switch it off in your privacy settings at any time.

  4. Join groups and conversations

Your community feed is where neighbours share news, ask questions and help each other out. Post, add photos, comment and reply.

Groups bring together people with something in common: a street, a sport, a hobby or a community project. Join one, ask to join, or start your own.

  5. Become part of the neighbourhood

Over time, names become faces and faces become friends. Lend a hand, recommend someone good, start the group your street has been missing, or get involved in a community project.

That’s what Homestead is for: a place that feels a bit more like home.

Good to know

Who can join?

Anyone aged 16 or over who lives in a Homestead community. Right now that’s Swinton, South Yorkshire. If you live somewhere else, you can still register your interest.

Does it cost anything?

No. Homestead is free for residents.

Will my neighbours see my address?

No. Your address is only used to place you in the right community. Neighbours see that you’re a “Swinton resident”, never your street or house. Your date of birth, email address and phone number are private too.

What if Homestead isn’t in my area yet?

Register your interest and we’ll let you know when Homestead reaches you. Hearing where people want it helps us decide where to go next.

Do I need a password?

No. You sign in with your mobile number or email address, and we send you a one-time code.

How do I get the app?

Homestead is in early access while we test it with Swinton residents. Register your interest and we’ll tell you how to get the app when it’s ready for you.

Ready when you are.

Homestead is opening in Swinton first. Register your interest and we'll let you know when you can join, wherever you live.
